The reversed motorway

En route down from Payson into the desert, and about a third of the way into the Valley of the Sun, travelers encounter a curiosity: a high that crosses over itself. For a few miles, the traffic lanes with traffic bound toward Phoenix may be found to the south and east of the outbound traffic. The narrow, rocky canyons and the need to preserve appropriate grades has apparently led to this unusual result.
