Erebus, Hunter 28 at the Anniversary Cup Regatta

Erebus approaches the finish at the Anniversary Cup, sponsored by the Rio Grande Sailing Club.

Erebus finishes furling her genoa while heading south in Elephant Butte Lake, New Mexico. Kettletop Mesa can be seen in the left background. "Ross" was sailing with his daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren; all of his family were first-time sailors. By the time the race ended, conditions had moderated to 10-15 knots.

Even though "Ross" likely wouldn't mind me using his real name, it's a convention on this blog not to give out real names unless a person has given permission, has identified him or herself, or is a public figure of some sort. So, I've used the blog nickname that Carol Anne coined for Erebus' skipper, taking as a nickname a name associated with a famed Antarctic explorer.
