Tillerman once posted a photo on his blog of an Olsen 30 on a glassy smooth lake with the sails filled and asked his readers how that could happen.
One answer on a mountain or desert lake is that with a boat with a tall mast, there may be no wind at the surface of the water, but there's still plenty at the top of the sails.
Or, as Tillerman suggested, you have some wizardry at work (after all, the boat IS named Black Magic, and my birthday IS Halloween, and my dad IS a magician).
