Heatstroke Sailboats at Tempe Town Lake

On a warm Sunday afternoon (31 July 2011), a few desert-hardy sailors showed up for Heatstroke Series sailing at Tempe Town Lake in Arizona. We couldn't stay long because we had errands to run before heading back to New Mexico, but we visited with folks for a bit.

The race signals are given from ashore.

The mark boat has the generally simple job of setting and later removing the pin buoys for the starting line.

nice to see a Sunfish! I hope he wasn't the only one out there racing. looking at Google Maps - it seems the lake is more like a river?!

I was just visiting relatives in Surprise, AZ... I should have looked around to see if any Sunfish sailors were in the general area.

cheers, my2fish

There should be Sunfish at Tempe Town Lake -- I've seen plenty of Lasers and other dinghies. Boats at TTL have to have a sticker from the city. There is a boat livery on the SW corner of the lake with paddle boats and such. No internal combustion motors allowed.
